Latinx Youth Ambassadors Program

The 12 week Latinx Youth Ambassador Program provided communication training to a small group of Latinx high schoolers on how to directly and effectively share information with their families and community about the COVID-19 vaccine, including how it works and why it is so important in stop the spread of virus with their families and the community.

Program Goals

Informing and educating our local community has always been a crucial part of LATIN-19’s mission. Using funds earned from Duke Children’s Seasons of Hope Fundraiser, we partnered with ISLA in the spring of 2022 to enlist local youth in supporting this joint mission.

Ambassador Training

Latinx Youth Ambassadors were introduced to communications professionals that helped them strategically identify the modes of communication that would best support their mission, as well as strategies for finding supportive ways to motivate their friends and family to get vaccinated.

Working with social media professionals to strategically pick the channels that would best support their mission in addition to coaching on interview strategies and communication best practices, the Latinx Youth Ambassadors Program

This program means a lot to me because I want to raise awareness about the problems we have today, like COVID-19, which has affected our lives, and also about how to help them protect themselves from COVID-19.

  • PICKING PLATFORMS

Bryan Ramirez @ISLA_NC Social Media helps Youth Ambassadors pick the social media platforms that will support their mission.

  • CONTENT PLANNING

The Youth Ambassadors work with @ISLA_NC social media experts to lay out their posts in a content planner creating an organized approach to their social media campaign.

  • INTERVIEW TRAINING

Mr. Paul Nagy host a “Motivational Interviewing” training on the “Looking Back” technique — finding something you have done well in the past to help find the motivation to change a behavior in the future. These strategies help the ambassadors find supportive ways to motivate their friends and family to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Helping my community and others is very important to me. I want to help and inform people with helpful information about the situation in world. I believe this opportunity would greatly benefit my community and myself, now and in the future.

2022 Youth Ambassadors in Action

I come from a school with a very low Hispanic population, and this doesn’t give me much of a chance to be more active and involved in my community. [Through Youth Ambassadors] I can be more involved in my community.

I am very interested in being part of a program that gives back and cares for our community, especially the Latinx community (which I am proud to be part of).
